TUNECORE VS. OCEAN HOUSE MUSIC
TuneCore is a leading DIY digital music distribution platform, owned by French Digital Distribution company, Believe. They operate on a flat-rate annual subscription model like Ocean House Music, but are the costs the same? We’ve done the research for you so let’s break this all down.
Like DistroKid, Tunecore is one of the leading DIY music distribution companies in the world. They offer a flat rate platform and while it may look like there are similarities to Ocean House Music, from a cost perspective, the two are very different.
Here’s an example:
From the onset, all other subscription distribution companies are cheaper than us. If you’re going to release music with DistroKid, TuneCore or even CDBaby, and this is a novelty for you, Ocean House Music doesn’t fit in your world. However, when you compare how artists grow specific to working with additional artists for co-primaries (meaning the release is credited to Artist A & Artist B as main artists), TuneCore gets expensive quick.
Let’s say you are about to release your first single with Tunecore and you want to collab with another artist. If the second artist is listed as a co-primary artist, TuneCore immediately requires their top-tier plan to manage multiple artists. Their Professional Plan Base is $54.99 a year (includes your primary artist). Seems pretty cheap so far.
If you have ever read our The Pillars article you know that having a co-primary artist on your songs can be the fastest way to grow in this industry. So, let’s say you release that first song, and it goes well. Now, you want to do that again with a different artist. Well, Tunecore is going to charge you another $14.99 a year. That’s $69.98 for two singles with two co-primaries. What if you release a 10-song album and you put multiple other artists on that? You can see how that can get out of hand quickly.
At this point, you may be thinking, “I’m not going to keep doing co-primaries.” And, while that may be true, it may not be as you grow. The future is unknown. Most bigger artists will tell you that when they released their first songs, they didn’t know it would turn out to be a career. If you’re a new artist, or an established artist, being a part of an artist community is an important benefit for growth. Why be financially punished for doing the right thing?
Ocean House Music’s flat rate Premium Plus distribution plan is just $10 a month (or $120 annually). It doesn’t come with 1 additional artist co-primaries, like Tunecore’s Professional Plan, but 10 artist co-primaries. If you were to utilize the same service with that many co-primaries it would cost you $189.90 a year. We don’t charge extra for co-primaries here because we have a flat-rate subscription system so if you need a few extra over 10 co-primaries, email our support@oceanhousemusic.om and we’ll accommodate you.
So, why get charged a ton of money to get stuck releasing your music when you don’t have to. Come on over to Ocean House Music.
