DISTROKID VS. OCEAN HOUSE MUSIC

DistroKid is the world’s largest distributor for over 2M independently minded creators. It’s a simple to understand, low cost solution for musicians, producers, label owners, who are looking to put out their music for the world to hear. But is it low cost? We’ve done the research for you so let’s break this all down.

When we set out to create Ocean House Music, we wanted to provide a CUSTOMER SERVICE FIRST, low cost solution that meets artists where they are in their career. Just like DistroKid, we have pricing tiers but that’s where the comparisons stop. While most of pricing tiers are flat rate, DistroKid’s are not and the more you know about their pricing, the more you will realize just how expensive they really are.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say you are an artist just starting out and you pick the Musician’s Plus plan. You look at the price and you see $24.99 a year. Sounds inexpensive right? You realize you can’t brand your own label with it, but you ignore that for now because it doesn't cost you much. You sign up, you put in your first song and you realize that not all of the services are in their yearly price. What’s the harm right? You pay the extra $4.95 to generate revenue with YouTube’s content ID and you grab the Shazam pack for only $.99 cents because even though you’re just getting started, you want to generate as much revenue as you can. So at the end of the day, for one song you are now paying $4.95 + $.99 ($5.94) + $24.99 or $30.93 a year.

That still seems pretty cheap until you realize that you want to grow your career and add more songs. This is where it becomes expensive. If you were to distribute 16 songs with DistroKid using the same add- ons you would be paying $120.03 a year.

Only now, you want the label branding and you want to do a couple of collabs so you grab their Musician’s Plus plan at $44.99 and now you’re paying $165.02 a year. You can see how overtime, you can get to $200, $300, $400 and more as you grow.

Ocean House Music’s flat rate Premium Plus plan is just $10 a month (or $120 annually). It doesn’t come with 2 artist collabs, like DistroKid’s Musician’s Plus plan, but 10 artist collabs. DistroKid’s unlimited 10 plan (without the add-ons) costs $139.99 a year. We don’t charge extra for YouTube Content ID or Shazam and you can release unlimited music.

So, you’ve read this page and you’re convinced that Ocean House Music is the right financial fit but you feel stuck because you have released a lot of music through DistroKid and it sounds difficult to transfer everything over. We have the answer for that too. DistroKid has a permeant placement fee called “Leave A Legacy.” This is so you can cancel your plan with them and for only $29 a single you leave your song with them. That sounds great right? Only until you realize that we charge just $10 dollars for the same service with the Premium Plus plan. On top of that, our skilled catalog migration team will handle the transfer for you at no extra cost.

So, why get charged a ton of money to release your music when you don’t have to. Come on over to Ocean House Music.
